In Psalm 8:1-2, David acknowledged that God is incredible and majestic. His greatness is unsurpassed. And this God had created this ever-expanding universe that runs with great precision. The more he contemplated the constellation of the planets orbiting in exactitude, the more he marvelled at the wisdom of God’s hand behind it.

Are you familiar with the term the “Synoptic Gospels”? They are the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke that describe the same events from a similar point of view. The Parable of the Sower serves as a good example. Why is the Gospel of John excluded?

I grew up in a region of the United States where we experienced each of the four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter). The transition from Winter to Spring was my favourite time of year.

We live in a world of advertising, with commercials everywhere. When listening to the radio or watching shows on TV, we are constantly interrupted by commercials telling us to get, grab and hoard. If we don’t live with contentment, we will tend to chase after the wind—a metaphor for pursuing things that are ultimately unattainable or meaningless.

This verse teaches us to honour the elderly and treat them with respect and dignity. We can and should honour them for their seniority out of common courtesy as well as for the wisdom and experience they have accumulated in life, out of respect.
