Discover the passion and dedication behind the Worship Ministry at Lighthouse Evangelism, where serving goes beyond Sundays.
When the music fades,
all is stripped away…
and I simply come….
These sum up the heart of worship where all true worshippers of the Lord are gathered, united in heart and spirit in giving praise and adoration to our living God.
The drive and passion for worship
For Joyce Peh, worship has always been a calling in the making.
She recalls joining Speedlight in Primary 6 and, two years later, started serving in Speedlight Worship Ministry – from serving in the choir on the riser to becoming a support vocalist on stage. Eventually she joined Lighthouse Evangelism as a part-time administrative staff in Sparklight Ministry in 2018.
COVID struck hard in 2020, creating unprecedented changes. Yet it was in times like that that God opened doors for her to serve in the Worship Ministry. Then, worship recordings were the call of the day for online services. Through a chain of events, Joyce was given the opportunity to join the Worship Ministry full-time, with the endorsement from Ps John Koh.
“God assured me that it is time for me to use the gifting that He has given me,” Joyce recalls, “I felt God is prompting me strongly to enter into the Worship Ministry full-time.”
Wan Hui Ling’s roadmap to joining LE Chinese worship ministry differs. While doing her theological studies, she prayed for a church internship where she can learn and experience true worship more in depth.
“In a very short period of time, God answered my prayer and led me to Lighthouse Evangelism,” shares Hui Ling, “During the interview, I shared my passion in worship and how I knew my calling is to serve God as I have done through many years of serving in worship. God is good! My interview went smoothly and I started serving in the Chinese Ministry’s worship team.”
The hard work that goes into the preparation
Though the worship ministry is most visible on Sundays when they lead worship, a lot of work goes on behind the scene on other days of the week to ensure that worship runs smoothly during service.
For Joyce, apart from leading worship, most workdays she’s busy preparing weekly sets, coordinating rehearsals, supporting major events and mentoring the Speedlight worship team.
“I make it a priority to build relationships with the ministry members under my care – whether fellowships before or after rehearsals and services, sending them a text over the week to pray for them, or meeting up with them,” shares Joyce, “All of these comes from the outflow of God’s love and a shepherding heart towards the people.”
Likewise, Hui Ling works hard during the week to ensure that weekly worship sessions for the Chinese service are well-prepared. Each week, she coordinates with the team for smooth execution, prays and plans the sequence for suitable song selection for the week, and shares each song’s story with the team so they can connect with it.
What makes the Heart of Worship tick
As the body of Christ, we work best when each of us are able to come together and contribute each our unique gifts and talent.
For Joyce, her most fulfilling moments are when she sees the worship team members growing spiritually over time and improving progressively in their musical & vocal talents bestowed by God.
“I feel the most fulfilling times are when I see how our members show love to one another with the most genuine hearts – The deepest prayers we’ve prayed for one another, the acts of love for those in need – these show me how a spiritual family is like,” Joyce expresses.
Hui Ling shares, “As a worship coordinator, I help create a welcoming environment for people to engage in worship during services. The most fulfilling aspect of my role is witnessing God’s people worship freely in church.”
We value teamwork and continual growth
As Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Here at Lighthouse Evangelism, one of our culture pillars is that we value teamwork and continual growth, which is reflected in the way the Worship team works seamlessly together to ensure a smooth and spirit-filled worship at each Sunday service.
“In the worship team, we make every effort to keep to unity of the spirit. We appreciate one another in the team and we often fellowship and bond outside of serving,” shares Hui Ling, “as children of God who lift up our worship to honour Him, we always make space for team members to share their thoughts because we are serving as a family.”
Joyce agrees, “I think it’s about how we show love to one another. It’s built over time and I pray that this will continue and our members will form deeper connections, relationships and friendships with one another, so that the bond within the ministry will be stronger.”
Blessings in the serving
True blessings are found in serving others – When we give of ourselves, we reflect God’s love and receive joy that only a heart of service can know.
In their years of serving in the worship team, both remembers a certain moment fondly in which they are truly blessed in serving the Lord.
Joyce recalled a poignant event in 2022 when Ps John led a team from the Worship Ministry to Israel for a study and ministering trip. The team had the rare opportunity to fellowship and interact with aged seniors who survived the Holocaust and Ukrainian immigrants. This encounter left an inedible mark on her heart in realizing how blessed we are and how God can use us to love and minister to people who are hurting or in crisis.
“It gave me a deeper understanding of how God can use us in such ways to show His love to people who are in countries with such crises,” says Joyce, “It has really etched in my heart and mind to always remember how blessed we are to be able to comfortably and freely worship God here in Singapore without so much of a persecution.”
Hui Ling’s unforgettable memorable moment was during the Holy Fire Celebration and Revival Night 2023 when she felt the spirit of God moving in and through her worship and the face of God shining upon her.
A higher calling to serve
Full-time ministry is a calling that begins with a personal encounter with God.
Both echoed their unwavering passion to serve in this ministry and emphasised the effort made to keep the unity of the spirit. Fellowship, bonding and appreciation of one another point the way of life among the members.
Our focus is on Jesus and as the music in the background rises with intensity. As the song, “Heart of Worship” goes:
I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You,
it’s all about You, Jesus.
On a parting call, especially to those who have a flame lit up in you with a passion in worship and are willing to exercise God’s giftings, wait no more! Arise and join the Worship Ministry and be a blessing to God’s community. Come and taste the Lord is good as we gather to worship as true worshippers from a heart of worship.
