Before serving full-time in the Sparklight ministry, Alina Tiong served as an usher in the Youth Ministry when she was only 13 years old.
“My leaders talked a lot about welcoming people into the House of God and I was convicted in my spirit that it was more than shaking hands or being effective in packing the seats; it was more about God and His presence among His people,” recalls Alina. The experience sparked something in her heart and gave her a desire to see God do even greater things in the church and in the lives of others.
Serving the Lord full-time
Now into her 12th year serving full-time as Sparklight Manager, the journey of answering God’s calling has deepened her faith and dependency on God.
“Living a life of service to the Lord calls for obedience and the willingness to be used by Him for His purposes,” shares Alina, “It has challenged me in doing things that I never thought I could or would – Many times, I would say to God, ‘Lord, please lead me, I can’t do it on my own.’”
But as she continues to stay faithful to the call, God continues to build on what she could do for His Kingdom, developing not only her heart and character, but her professional skills as well.
Children growing God’s way
“Serving the Sparklight is both rewarding and challenging – It’s a vibrant environment filled with creativity, new experiences with the children, and constant learning,” says Alina, “Children are curious and full of questions, but their interest to know what God’s Word means excites me to tell them more about our amazing God.”
“It is most rewarding to see children growing in the love of God and glowing for Him in their love and care for others; Seeing them be a positive influence in their community always warms my heart, especially when they look out for the quiet ones in the room.”
Creating meaningful experiences for children and families
Creating a nurturing and engaging environment for children to learn about God and the Word requires the joint efforts of a dedicated team.
“In our Sparklight team, collaboration and communication is key,” Alina shares, “We talk, we laugh, we support one another, share ideas and work together to create meaningful experiences with and for the children and families.”
As it is said in Matthew 9:37, the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. For those who might be interested to join and serve the Sparklight ministry full-time, Alina advises, “Engage, listen and adapt. God is constantly working in our lives to transform us, so always turn your eyes to Him and lean in to listen to what He says as you partner with Him for the plans He has made.”
“When you open your heart to God, He will show you His heart for His people.”
