The pastoral intern will work closely with ministry pastors and church leadership to gain practical experience and training in pastoral ministry. The pastoral intern will assist the Pastor and other church leaders in ministries, including worship, teaching, outreach, and pastoral care. This is an excellent opportunity for an intern pastor to gain valuable experience and develop their skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.
The pastoral intern will be assigned to a ministry pastor for supervision. The pastor will work closely with the pastoral intern to define the competency development needs and assign projects, programmes, and training skills suitable for the pastoral intern. This role will be for a duration of 18 to 24 months.
The pastoral intern will assist the supervising pastor in his/her areas of ministry responsibilities, which may include but are not limited to the following:
Youths and Young Adults Ministries:
- Develop and lead programmes for youths and young adults, including Bible studies, small groups and outreach events.
Pastoral Care and Counselling:
- Assist in responding to prayer requests, pastoral needs, and crisis situations within the congregation.
Discipleship and Cell Groups:
- Facilitate or assist in leading cell groups, Bible studies and discipleship programmes.
- Assist the pastor in guiding individuals within the church community, helping the members grow in their faith and understanding of Scripture.
- Personal discipleship of new converts.
Outreach and Evangelism:
- Participate in outreach events, evangelism efforts and community engagement.
- Collaborate with the missions team to plan and execute overseas outreach.
Worship Services:
- Participate in planning and leading worship services, including selection music, coordinating with volunteers and providing support during worship.
Leadership Development:
- Participate in leadership meetings, as well as training and development opportunities to grow in pastoral skills and knowledge.
Administrative and Events:
- Assist with church administration, including office tasks, communication and coordination of events.
- Assist in overseeing an area of the ministry’s service (e.g. ushering, altar call, hospitality) to ensure smooth running of services.
- Be involved in planning at least one event (e.g. Good Friday, Easter, ministry activities)
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor or Senior Pastor’s Office.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Candidate must possess at least a Diploma in Theology, Divinity or related fields; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Requires 1-3 years of pastoral experience, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated commitment to Christian faith and values, with a passion to serve in ministry.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate well to people of diverse backgrounds.
- Able to work collaboratively and follow directions from pastors and church leadership.
- Able to work on weekends and be involved in our church services (5-day work week).
