Tracy Goh was raised up in a dysfunctional family. Her father was a compulsive gambler. He would gamble away his entire monthly salary, usually within three days after getting his pay. Then he would demand money from Tracy’s mother who was left alone to take care of all the children’s needs. He resorted to taking away whatever money he could find in the home; even Tracy’s piggy bank was not spared. Out of necessity, her mother had to frequently borrow money from others just to buy food items for the family. Furthermore, her father even borrowed money from loan sharks. As a result, they were frequently hounded by the loan sharks. Writings on the wall, spray paint on their main door and poundings on their door at midnight were common occurrences.
Although he worked as a policeman, Tracy’s father used violence on her mother. That usually happened when he could not stand her reminders that they needed money. Once, her mother was beaten so badly that she could not move. After midnight, at 2am, her father became worried. So he woke Tracy up and asked her to pray for her mother. Ironically, it was him who brought the entire family to church when Tracy was younger. Shortly after, he stopped going to church but they continued to attend worship service on their own. Tracy prayed, and by God’s grace, her mother survived the ordeal.
Since young, Tracy used to be very tomboyish. She would be fighting the boys and playing marbles with them, speaking vulgarity and stealing fruits from her neighbors almost daily. But she received Jesus Christ into her heart when she was 11 years old. Since then, there was a great transformation in her life. She had a complete change in outlook and lifestyle. Not only did she stop mixing with the boys and cease all her misdemeanors, she also stayed at home and studied diligently. That year, she did so well in her examinations that she became second in her class. As a result, she was promoted to the best class for the next year.
Meanwhile, Tracy’s father still treated her and her siblings harshly. For punishment, he would make them kneel down on cockle shells and use anything he could lay his hands on to hit them. As a result, they grew up with tremendous fear and hatred toward their dad. Tracy joined the National Police Cadet Corp during her secondary school days. When she was in the corp, she learned how to fire a gun. One day, while her father was sleeping, something just came over her mind. She actually took his gun and planned to kill him. She wanted to end all their misery since she thought he was the cause of it all. With her hand trembling, she pointed the gun at him. She heard voices in her mind, urging her to pull the trigger. But amidst all the voices, she also heard an inner still voice from the Holy Spirit that killing her dad was not the answer to her family’s problems. Finally, she came to her senses and kept the gun. She was only 14 years old then.
Tracy did very well in her “O” levels. However, her parents wanted her to start working so that she could help out in the family finances. She felt very sad. Still, with prayer, she made up her mind to work part-time in order to fund her study in the Polytechnic. Tracy actually worked on Fridays to Sundays. Eventually, she obtained her diploma. In fact, she also financially helped her brother through his “A” levels and her sister through university. At the lowest point of her life when she felt that she was totally starved of her parents’ love, thoughts of suicide flashed across her mind but she did not entertain them because of the wonderful love of God. It was indeed a very tough journey for Tracy. Certainly, she would not have made it if it had not been for the grace of God.
In 1989, her attempt at starting her own business failed and she was on the verge of filing for bankruptcy. That was when she came to Lighthouse Evangelism and the Miracle Service. Though she was heartbroken and heavily in debt, she decided to trust God. Applying the biblical and practical lessons taught by Pastor Rony, she learned to forgive all her enemies. She got back on her feet and worked very hard. Soon she began to develop faith, joy and enthusiasm in her life again.
The following year, Tracy went into real estate business. Being a responsible person, she set her immediate goal to pay off all her debts she incurred during her first business. With God’s help, she cleared her debts.
Subsequently, during the economic downturn in 1998, the property market crashed. Many properties were devalued by up to 40% overnight, and the mortgage interest rate soared to 8%. Tracy’s business was badly affected by the recession. She felt depressed and took two months to stay at home to seek the Lord. Through reading the Word and prayer, she was taught the principle of tithing and its importance. She also learned to be bold and persistent in prayer. With faith in God, she got back on her feet again. Although the property market had not recovered, Tracy did very well. In fact, in 1999, she had a breakthrough by making a quarter million dollars. From then onward, she did so well that she managed to exceed her financial goals every year.
Despite the many adverse circumstances that could have destroyed Tracy, her trust in God saw her through. She had not only forgiven her parents, but also brought them to the Miracle Service where they received the Lord. By applying godly principles and cultivating good habits, her life has been totally and wonderfully transformed!
